WLNZ - Finding cases that have cited specific legislation or cases

Finding cases that cite a specific piece of legislation.  For instance, if you wish to find cases that have mentioned the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013:

  1. From the left pane, click the Cases search template.
  2. Into the Legislation Cited (Title) field, enter the name of the legislation.  Include double-quotes at either end of the title.  No drop-down options will appear, so be sure that you enter the correct name and year of the legislation you require.
  3. Click Search.
  4. The result will display all cases that have cited the legislation you entered, with the most recent of those cases at the top of the list.

To find cases that cite legislation as well as a section, enter the section title as above, and then complete the Legislation Cited (Provision) field with the section number.

Hot Tip:  You can enter more than one section by using the sequence in the diagram below.

Finding cases in which another case has been cited.  For instance, if you wish to find cases where Skyline Enterprises Ltd v Queenstown Lakes District Council has been cited:

  1. From the left pane, click the Cases search template.
  2. Into the Cases Cited (Title) field, enter the name of the case.  Include double-quotes at either end of the case name so that you capture the exact name of the case.
  3. Click Search.
  4. The result will display the list of cases that have cited the Skyline Enterprises case, with the most recent of those cases at the top of the list.
