The Brookers brand is best known for its legal products. But alongside our esteemed legal editors, there exists a select band of dedicated writers and editors – spread from Canterbury to Auckland – who work on our products aimed at human resources and health and safety professionals. Since I joined the company in 2001, I have been responsible for keeping People Management Plus up-to-date, although in those days we called it the HR library.

You may have heard of People Management Plus. You may even subscribe to it. If you do, you may have experienced a moment or two of frustration as our online platform – the one used for our legal products before Brookers Online was developed – became more outdated and slower. If so, I have good news for you.

From mid-March 2011, the People Management Plus library will be on Brookers Online, and will be called People Management. This may not sound monumental, but what it means is that the search engine will be more flexible, the speed will be infinitely faster, and the updates will be dynamic – it can be updated online as changes in legislation and case law happen. It’s exciting. Very exciting.

People Management is a collection of ten modules (see the screen shot below) giving commentary, examples, cases, and samples on human resources and health and safety law and best practice. Some cover specific areas – there’s a module on training, a module on performance management, a module on staff handbooks, and a module that provides a vast range of HR forms that can be used and adapted.

Some modules provide an online (and CD) version of our HR looseleaf products, including Payroll and Compliance, Guide to Recruitment and Termination, and Workplace Safety Handbook. Each module may be subscribed to on its own, or the customer can choose a selection to meet their needs. For these products, the online version will now be updated on an ongoing basis, while two releases per year per looseleaf will be sent out containing the updated text.
