Legal Aid Webinar
How much of your work is Legal Aid?
Have you made the changes you need to?
When The Legal Service Act 2011 came into force on the 1st of July this year, it brought with it, according to Steven Zindel, “more technicalities than ever”.
To help you negotiate them Steven recorded a webinar in conjunction with Thomson Reuters and the NZ Bar Association. This is a free service and a prototype of what we hope is more collaboration to come.
His presentation The Legal Services Act, More technicalities than ever, guides you through areas of potential pitfall.
Steven’s powerpoint slides accompanying his talk are available for downloading. These are an invaluable resource: bullet point summaries of the principal differences between the old and the new Act and how these changes impact on you, the legal aid provider.
Some of the topics covered:
- The implications of the new Section 9 – e.g. prescribed offences and fixed fees
- The new time limits for reconsiderations and what that means
- Changes in the review procedure used by the Legal Aid Tribunal
- Changes to billing processes and the necessity of keeping up to date
- Who is eligible for Legal Aid?
- How to get yourself listed for work appropriate to your areas of expertise
- How to work an adverse performance decision
Who is Steven Zindel?
