Two authors win JF Northey Award 2013
Two Thomson Reuters authors nominated. Both win.
The JF Northey Memorial Book Award was presented to joint winners Associate Professor Peter Devonshire and Professor Richard Boast by Justice Paul Heath, the President of the Legal Research Foundation at their recent AGM. This is the first time the award has been given to two authors simultaneously.
Peter Devonshire’s book “Account of Profits”, described as a powerful weapon in the litigator’s arsenal, had already gathered significant praise and endorsement nationally and internationally for its scholarly and thorough treatment of its subject.
Similarly Richard Boast’s book “The Native Land Court: A Historical Study, Cases and Commentary, 1862-1887”, (the first of several volumes planned), has received accolades for filling the, as Professor David Williams put it, “…yawning gap in the availability of case law and jurisprudence of deep significance to the past, present and future of the Aotearoa New Zealand legal system.”

Account of profits
"There can be no doubt that Peter Devonshire's "Account of Profits", both in organization of the text and its content, is an extremely clear and concise articulation of a particular area of law.”
The Native Land Courts 1867- 1882
"The opportunity that is presented by Richard Boast's "Native Land Court" to bring archival material into the public domain can only be applauded, along with the extraordinarily high level of scholarship that lies behind the work."

Renay Taylor, Thomson Reuters NZ Product Development Manager, attended the award function on behalf of Richard Boast, and the company. She says that she collected many complimentary remarks on both books production and their exemplary authorship. People, she says, were pleased the adjudicators came back the decision that they should share equal endorsement.
