On 6 July 2016, Victoria University of Wellington Law School will host the third gathering of New Zealand’s rising research scholars. Following on from two successful symposia in 2014 and 2105, the Symposium has now become established as an annual event on the academic law calendar. As it did in previous years, the  New and Emerging Scholars Symposium, brings together new and emerging academics from five of New Zealand’s law schools and, for the first time,  one academic from Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Auckland.  A number of scholars who attended last year’s Symposium will also attend the 2016 event.

An opportunity to develop mutually supportive connections

Ian McIntosh, who initiated the idea for the 2014 Symposium, and the  convener of this year’s Symposium says that he is particularly gratified at the level of interest in, and support for, the event expressed by the Deans of each of New Zealand’s Law Schools and the head of department of Commercial Law at Auckland University. He adds that the 2016 event represents a true realization of his initial vision for the event which was to develop a forum that allows junior academics to meet regularly with each other and their senior colleagues and to forge mutually supportive and collaborative cohorts. He hopes that this year’s symposium will not only be as successful as the previous Symposia but that it will help ensure the longevity of the event for many years to come

Do come along - academics are welcome

The event, starting at 9.30 am, will be held in the Moot Room on Level 3 of the Victoria University School of Law and if any academics wish to attend it, they are welcome (space permitting) to do so. As with last year’s event, the Wellington Law School is hosting a post symposium reception to enable the participants and their senior colleagues to mix and mingle.
