Costs in civil proceedings – costs for parties acting in person

From 1 September 2024 the rules of the Senior Courts and the District Court have been amended to allow for a party who is acting in person to claim costs in both standard and complex appeals.

For commentary to the District Court Rules, see Civil Procedure: District Court and Tribunals at [DCR14.1.14] and [DCR14.1.18]. New Schedule 2, pt 2 of the High Court Rules and Schedule 5, pt 2 of the District Court Rules 2014 allow a daily recovery rate of $500.
