The End of Life Choice Act 2019 (ELCA 2019) came into force on 6 November 2021.

The Act creates an assisted dying regime enabling eligible persons to either end their own lives through the self-administration of life-ending medication supplied in accordance with the Act, or to have their death assisted by requiring an authorised health professional to administer the medication on their behalf.

Commentary in the Crimes Act chapter in Adams on Criminal Law has been updated at various locations to reflect this new regime. See the What’s New for more details.
