Resource Management Legislative Developments

Recent developments include:

The Resource Management (Freshwater and Other Matters) Amendment Bill came into force on 25 October 2024.  

A further Resource Management Act 1991 amendment bill is expected to be introduced to Parliament in December and to become law in mid-2025.  

The Fast-track Approvals Bill is expected to be enacted this year.  

An Expert Advisory Group ("EAG") has been established to prepare a blueprint to replace the Resource Management Act 1991. The EAG is expected to provide recommendations before Christmas 2024.
