IAN GAULT HAS BEEN A PRACTITIONER AT BELL GULLY FOR 16 YEARS NOW, AND IS AN UPDATING AUTHOR FOR THOMSON REUTERS PRODUCT, GAULT ON COMMERCIAL LAW.

1. What is your involvement in the product Gault on Commercial Law?
I update commentary for the Contractual Remedies chapter.

2. What changes have you observed in the practice of law over your 16 year career with Bell Gully?
One of the key changes is the pace. The combined effect of technological advances, client expectations and case management is that so much is now done under time pressure.

3. Your career has involved extensive travel. What have you gained from your international practice?
Working overseas has given me wonderful exposure to clients and dispute resolution in different jurisdictions, and insight into different substantive and procedural law approaches and also cultural factors that influence commercial outcomes.

4. What has been one of your most prominent cases?
In London, the BCCI collapse. Here in New Zealand, the Wine-box Commission of Inquiry and related Court proceedings was most prominent.

5. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you go, and why?
Being based in New Zealand, but with the opportunity to travel provides the best of both worlds.
