Westlaw NZ – May 2015 release update

The update includes substantial improvements to Westlaw NZ made in response to customer feedback.  We have also introduced major new enhancements, enabling users to personalise their research by annotating documents and collaborate with other users through sharing folders.

What's in this update?

The range of enhancements are summarised below.

Westlaw NZ enhancements May 2015

Improved searching: Basic Search We have substantially improved the Basic search function on the Home page so that more relevant results are at the top of the Results List.
Improved searching: Legislation and Commentary We have substantially improved the relevancy of results when searching for legislation from the Legislation and Commentary template.
Annotating documents OnePass users are now able to annotate documents in a number of ways, making it easy to note relevant parts of a document or record observations about its relevance to a matter.  OnePass users can now:
  • highlight text
  • add notes to documents
  • save selections of text to a folder as a “snippet”.
Collaboration by sharing folders OnePass users are now able to share their folders with other OnePass users from the same firm, enabling greater collaboration in research.
Result and Document navigation We have improved the options for navigating through documents from the Results List, enabling users to navigate more quickly from result to result.
Option to display Document Path added to Preferences We have introduced an option under Preferences to hide the Document Path when viewing documents on screen or when printing, emailing or downloading documents, to make reading and reusing content clearer.
Delivery options added to History OnePass users are now able to print, email or download documents from History, making it more efficient to recover your research trail.
Search fields supporting multiple terms Users are now able to use the “or” operator to search for multiple terms in the same field in the Cases and Legislation and Commentary search templates.
Icon changes We have revised some of the icons to better indicate their function and make Westlaw NZ easier to use.
Inactivity time-out period We have improved how the inactivity timeout operates so that if you are still using Westlaw NZ in another browser tab you will not be timed out.
Performance improvements We are continuing to make coding changes to improve the speed of Westlaw NZ and expect to see further improvements in the speed of Westlaw NZ later in May.
