Westlaw New Zealand Tip - Searching Tables of Contents (TOC)

Last Published: September 05, 2023

Did you both know that it is possible to search the TOC for a publication?

Searching Tables of Contents (TOC) is particularly helpful in publications where the TOC can be lengthy and/or complex.

For instance, somebody might be looking for a term such as “seabird scaring” within Fisheries Law, but they only really want to find the relevant notice or regulation, not every instance of that term.

  1. Open the commentary publication eg., Fisheries Law
  2. Enter your terms into the “Search TOC” field. e.g., "seabird scaring". Click Search.
  1. Results where the terms appears in the title of the Table of Contents will be displayed, highlighted in green.
  2. Click on the forward and back arrows to navigate to each result.
