System requirements for the new Westlaw are:

Supported operating systems

Internet browser

  • Internet Explorer® 11 or later (Windows only) Note: Support will cease for Internet Explorer February 2022 when Microsoft stop support.
  • Mozilla Firefox current version or Extended Support Release version
  • Safari® 10.0 or later
  • Chrome current version
  • Microsoft Edge current version

Other requirements

  • 1024x768 or higher screen resolution recommended
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader® 9.0 or later (some print functionality is lost with older versions)

When I purchase content with PPV how long do I have access to this document?

If saved to a folder in Westlaw it can be accessed for 365 days.

If saved to an external drive, it can be accessed indefinitely.

If you chose neither of these options once you log out of a session with Westlaw the document will need to be repurchased.

Westlaw New Zealand - Creating Folders 

Organise and manage your research by storing documents and snippets of text in folders that are easily accessible from anywhere on Westlaw New Zealand. Documents that you add to your folders are saved on Westlaw for as long as you choose.  

Accessing Folders  

  1. Folders can be accessed by clicking the Folders button at the top of any page. You can also click the Folders tab near the bottom of the Home page.  
  2. Select View all to display all content in saved in folders. 

Saving Documents from a Results List into a Folder 

To save documents from a Result list, 

  1. Select the check boxes next to the documents you want to save  
  2. Click the Save to Folder icon.  
  1. Create a New Folder by selecting New Folder. Name the Folder and press ok. 
  1. Select the folder which you want to save the documents and click Save. A confirmation message is displayed. 

Saving the Document you are Viewing 

  1. From the document, click the Save to Folder icon. 
  2. Select the folder in which you want to save the documents and click Save. A confirmation message is displayed. 

Saving selected text 

A snippet is a section of text which may include a quote, legal principal and/or relevant text. Snippets are saved to a folder and when you click on a saved snippet it will take you directly to that section of the document referenced.  

  1. To save selected text (snippets) into a folder, highlight the text you want to save by swiping with your cursor 
  2.  Choose Save to Folder from the pop-up menu. Select the folder into which you want to save the text.  

Viewing Saved Documents and Text  

  1. To view the documents or text saved in your folders, click Folders and then click the View all link at the top of any page.  
  2. Click the folder containing the items you want to view. A list of items is displayed in the right column.  
  3. Documents saved to My Folders can be Printed, Downloaded or Emailed. To deliver documents, tick the checkbox beside the item(s) name. You can choose one or multiple items at one time.
  4. Select the required delivery option to Download, Print or E-mail. 
  5. Click on the text to link to the content in Westlaw New Zealand.

Westlaw New Zealand - Document Delivery 

Document delivery tools allow you to email, print, or download search results and documents. 

When viewing a document, your delivery options are displayed on the right-hand side of the screen. 

You can email, print or download results by clicking the relevant option.  

Email 

Email single or multiple documents. 

  1. Recipients enables you to specify information such as email addresses, subject line and format (so you could choose to send a PDF version, or just send a link to the document) 
  1. Layout and Limits enables you to change footnotes from end of the document to inline, change the colour and style of links and font size, and include: term highlighting, original image and other version links, expanded margin, headnotes, the full Key Number hierarchy, and a cover page.  
  1. Content to Append allows you to choose which KeyCite Lists to include in the download: the first 500 citing references, historical references, negative treatments, and the first 500 Table of Authorities references. 
Print 
  1. The Basics allows you to choose a list of items or documents to download. You can choose the format (RTF, Word, WordPerfect, PDF) as a single merged file or as individual files in a zip folder. 
  1. Layout and Limits enables you to change footnotes from end of the document to inline, change the colour and style of links and font size, and include: term highlighting, original image and other version links, expanded margin for notes, headnotes, the full Key Number hierarchy, and a cover page.
